Over 200 golfers took to the links for Central Florida’s premier charity golf event, The Tenth Annual - Special Olympics Florida Golf Classic held at the beautiful Heathrow and Red Tail Country Clubs on Monday, October 9, 2006.

2006 saw the addition of Red Tail Country Club as a tournament venue, which gave golfers the choice of two beautiful private courses to play. Both courses had shotgun starts and players competed in a Stableford System of scoring, for awards and prizes. A lavish lunch buffet was laid out for participants and all players received an exclusive tournament Nike goodie bag.

On course contests and raffles were held and all paid participants were eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing of a ski trip to Mt. Tremblant, Quebec, which was won by Ted Freycenet!

Golfers got to test their skills with best ball challenges at both courses with LPGA pros Mary Bryan, Barb Mucha and Leigh Ann Mills, and “Big Break V: Hawaii” finalist and Futures Tour player Jeanne Cho.

After a day of golf and camaraderie, tournament participants returned to the Heathrow Country Club for a gourmet feast, provided by the Heathrow Country Club Catering staff and Gator’s Dockside Restaurants.

Wrapping up the day’s activities were a silent auction and a short program, hosted by WESH News Channel 2's Sports Director Pat Clarke and WESH News Channel 2 Anchor Jim Payne. PGA Pro and Heathrow resident Donnie Hammond was on hand to congratulate the players and thank them for their support of Special Olympics Florida. The night concluded with an exciting live auction and announcement of the on-course prize winners and overall tournament winners.
